Misconceptions going around

7/2/2025

It has been brought to the districts attention that some misconceptions are going around concerning Bond jobs under construction. As the Districts General Manager I would like take a moment and address a few of these misconceptions..

Misconception1: Water lines are being hit because they are not marked. This is false. Actually the existing water lines are marked before construction starts and are kept up to date during construction. The contractors also have access to the same maps that Walnut Creek SUD works from. The line strikes are because the contractor is laying line in a very tight area in relation to old water mains already in the ground, county roads and residents fences. they are having to move slowly and carefully but sometimes things do happen.

Misconception 2: The water lines are being installed to replace old ones put in the wrong place. This is false. Actually the new water mains are being installed as an upgrade to small water lines that have been in the ground for over 35 years.

Misconception 3: The reason the old mains are being struck is because Walnut Creek SUD told contractors that the old main was on the other side of the road and were wrong. This is false refer to misconception 1.

I hope this helps to clear up some of the misconceptions that are going around concerning Walnut Creek Bond jobs under construction.
